CARIFES GIFT WEEK 2024
Let Us Rise Up and Build!
Rebuilding HaIti’s Student Ministry: GBEUH
CARIFES Gift Week 2024 is focused on supporting the rebuilding of Haiti’s student movement, GBEUH. The goal of this regional fundraising campaign is to inspire a shift in the Caribbean mindset towards greater generosity and giving.
This year’s theme is inspired by Nehemiah 2:18, “Let Us Rise Up and Build!”, aligning with the IFES Global Giving Day’s call to “Thrive together to rebuild hope in the midst of desolation.” Students in Haiti have faced overwhelming challenges, and now, more than ever, they need our support to restore hope.
Together, we can help rebuild and strengthen the Haitian student movement.
PARTNER IN REBUILDING HOPE FOR GBEUH
While GBEUH faces numerous needs, during CARIFES Gift Week, we are focusing on raising support for a few key priorities. Your generous contribution can have a meaningful impact, and we invite you to prayerfully consider partnering with us to help meet these needs for GBEUH during CARIFES Gift Week 2024.
Below is a breakdown of some of the key priority needs and costs essential to supporting their work:
Communication Tools
- A phone for the staff worker, valued at $500, is essential for coordinating with students and stakeholders for events and discipleship. We thank God for the generosity of a donor who has already contributed 400 euros. Now, we only need $100 more to fully meet this need! (US $100).
Office Equipment
- A printer for producing materials for Bible studies, training, and outreach (US $100)
- A laptop for administrative tasks, ministry coordination, and online events (US $1,000)
Staff Support
- Staff salaries and support for 12 months for the staff worker, Descheny Laurent to lead the ministry and nurture student leaders (US $500/month per)
Student Outreach
- Campus and national events play a crucial role in reaching new students, sharing the message of hope, and expanding the student movement. While $800 is a small contribution towards the cost needed per event, any additional support will help us make an even greater impact! (US $800 per event)
sERVING IN MINISTRY IN HAITI: UNDERSTANDING THE CONTEXT
Haiti is currently facing a severe crisis marked by escalating gang violence, political instability, and widespread humanitarian challenges.
Doing student ministry in Haiti means building and rebuilding in relentless adversity. Faced with severe economic hardship, pervasive social challenges, and a dangerous security situation, student leaders persevere despite the odds.
Being in the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, GBEUH lacks material and financial resources, making it incredibly difficult to sustain consistent ministry there. Even in these harsh conditions, there is a deep commitment among student leaders and the staff worker to serve and transform the campuses in the country.
